Terms of Service

In force since September 28, 2026

These terms are the agreement between you and William Batton, who operates Farmstead Helper at farmsteadhelper.com (the “service”). Using the service means accepting them. If you do not accept them, do not use it.

What the service is

A record-keeping tool for a homestead or small holding: what you planted and where, what you spent, what your animals ate, what you harvested, and what any of it worked out to per pound or per dozen. It is a notebook that does arithmetic. It is not agricultural, veterinary, financial, or tax advice, and no figure it produces should be treated as any of those.

Your account

You need an account to use the service, and you must be 18 or older to hold one. Keep your password to yourself; you are responsible for what happens under your account. Give us an email address that reaches you: it is how we send password resets and, if you ask for them, reminders. Tell us if something is wrong with your account and we will look into it.

You may invite other people into a homestead you own. What they can see and change depends on the role you give them. Inviting somebody is your decision and your responsibility.

How you may use it

You may use the service to run an agricultural operation, including one that makes money. Selling eggs at the gate, running a market garden, keeping the books for a small farm. All of that is the intended use, and the service is built to measure exactly those things.

What you may not do:

  • Resell access to the service, or use it to operate a competing product. (Running your own copy under a self-hosted license would be fine, since that is what it is for, but self-hosted is not currently offered.)
  • Break into it: bypass access controls, reach other people’s homesteads, or probe for ways to do either. If you find a weakness, please tell us at support@farmsteadhelper.com and we will fix it and thank you.
  • Scrape or bulk-extract the catalog of crops, varieties, and breeds to build a competing dataset. Your own records are a different matter. See below.
  • Use it to break the law, or to harm, harass, or impersonate anyone.
  • Deliberately overload it. Automated use is fine if it is reasonable and identifies itself.

Your records are yours

Everything you enter (your plantings, animals, costs, weights, photographs, and notes) belongs to you. We claim no ownership of any of it and we do not sell it, license it to anyone, or use it to advertise.

We need a narrow permission to run the service at all: to store your records, process them to produce the figures you asked for, back them up, and show them to you and to anyone you have invited into that homestead. That permission exists only to operate the service, it covers nothing else, and it ends when you delete the records or your account.

You can export everything you have recorded as a spreadsheet, free, on any plan, at any time. That is a deliberate commitment and not a feature we intend to charge for.

You are responsible for what you put in. Do not upload anything you do not have the right to, and do not upload other people’s personal information without their knowledge.

Plans, payment, and canceling

There is a free plan with limits on how much can be running at once, and a paid plan without them. Limits are about volume, never about how far back you can look: your history stays readable for as long as you keep it, on every plan.

Paid plans are billed in advance, monthly or yearly, by card through Stripe. Your card details go to Stripe and never reach us. Subscriptions renew automatically until you cancel.

You can cancel at any time from your account settings. Canceling stops the next renewal; you keep the paid features until the end of the period you have already paid for. We do not automatically refund part-used periods, but if something has gone wrong (you were charged twice, the service was broken, you canceled and it renewed anyway), write to us and we will sort it out. Nothing here removes rights you have under consumer law where you live; if you are in the UK or EU, your statutory cancellation rights apply regardless of what this paragraph says.

Dropping to the free plan never deletes anything. If you are over a free limit, the service stops you starting new things until you are back under it; it does not remove what is already there.

We may change prices. If a change affects what you are paying, we will tell you by email before it takes effect, with enough notice to cancel first.

If you run your own copy

Farmstead Helper can also be run on your own hardware under a one-time license, though that is not currently offered. If we offer it again, it will be governed by its own self-hosted license agreement rather than these terms. Two things worth stating plainly here regardless: a self-hosted install is yours to operate, and we have no access to it and no sight of anything in it.

Availability

We try to keep the service running and to keep your records safe, and we take backups. We do not promise a particular level of uptime, and we may change, suspend, or discontinue parts of it. If we ever discontinue the hosted service altogether, we will give you reasonable notice and time to export everything first.

Keep your own copy of anything you cannot afford to lose. The export exists for that, and using it occasionally is a sensible habit.

Ending this agreement

You can stop at any time: cancel your subscription, or delete your account from your account settings. Deleting an account removes it, and removes any homestead you solely own along with its records. That cannot be undone, so export first if you want a copy.

We may suspend or close an account that is being used to break these terms, to attack the service, or to break the law. Except where the law or the circumstances make it impossible, we will tell you why and give you a chance to put it right and to get your records out.

Disclaimer and limits on liability

The service is provided as it is. To the extent the law allows, we do not make warranties about it: that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that its projections and calculations will match what actually happens in your garden or your coop. Growing seasons, weather, and livestock do not respect arithmetic.

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, lost profits, or lost data; and our total liability to you for anything arising out of the service is limited to what you paid us in the twelve months before the claim arose.

Some of this may not apply to you. Consumer law in many places does not allow these exclusions, and where that is so, they do not apply and your statutory rights are unaffected.

Which law applies, and where disputes go

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Tennessee, United States, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. If you are a consumer resident elsewhere, this does not deprive you of the protection of the mandatory laws of your own country.

If something goes wrong, write to us first. Most things are resolved that way, and we would rather fix a problem than argue about one. If we cannot resolve it within 30 days, disputes go to the state or federal courts in Cocke County, Tennessee, except that either of us may bring a claim in small claims court, and either of us may ask any court for an injunction to stop misuse of the service or infringement of intellectual property.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. If a change materially affects what you are agreeing to, we will tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect. Continuing to use the service after that means accepting the new version. Every version carries the date it came into force.

General

If any part of these terms turns out to be unenforceable, the rest still stands. Not enforcing something once does not mean giving it up. You may not transfer this agreement; we may transfer it if the service changes hands, in which case the buyer takes on these obligations too. These terms, together with the privacy policy, are the whole agreement about the hosted service.
