What does a dozen of your eggs cost?
Tell us about your flock and your feed. We work out the cost per dozen, the cost per egg and what you spend on feed each month. It is free, needs no account, and nothing you type is saved.
How this is worked out
- Feed price per pound is the bag price divided by the bag weight.
- Feed per month is your hens, times the pounds each one eats a day, times about 30.4 days in a month, times the price per pound.
- Eggs per month is your hens, times the eggs each lays a week, times about 4.33 weeks in a month.
- Add any other monthly costs to the feed. Divide by the eggs, then multiply by twelve for the cost per dozen.
This is an estimate from averages. Real flocks eat more in a cold snap and lay less in winter and in a molt, so your true cost swings from month to month.
